Police Explorer Program

The Department has established an Explorer program for youth between the ages of 14 and 20 who are interested in a law enforcement career. The program helps to open up important avenues of understanding with energetic young adults. As a member of the Explorer Post, you will get a head start in the exciting, fast-paced world of law enforcement.

Search and Rescue Program

In a combined effort between the Long Beach Police and Fire Departments, a specialized explorer post has been established for youth ages 15-19 years old who are interested in exploring career possibilities in the law enforcement, fire protection and emergency medical services fields.

Youth Leadership Academy - Summer Program

The Long Beach Police Department, in conjunction with the Long Beach Police Foundation, hosts a Youth Leadership Academy in the summer. The three-week program is held Tuesday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and is free to those selected to participate.

The curriculum centers on leadership, personal and career development, and community engagement. Informational field trips and team building activities are also included. 

Youth between the ages of 14 to 17 years old are encouraged to apply. There is no cost for those selected to participate. Applications are required.
