Downtown Dining & Entertainment District

The Downtown Dining and Entertainment Distirct is bounded by Third Street and Ocean on the north and south, and Pacific and Long Beach Boulevards on the east and west. It also includes the areas known as the Pike and Shoreline Village.

In 2013, the City Council directed the City Manager, along with the Department of Development Services and the Planning Commission, to conduct an evaluation of the policies governing the issuance of entertainment permits in the Downtown Dining and Entertainment District during the one-year moratorium. At the same time, the City Council initiated a moratorium on the issuance of entertainment permits for establishments with a Type 48 ABC license; a Type 48 is typically associated with a nightclub.

Since that time, a group of stakeholders have met with city staff and prepared a set of recommendations. You can read a summary of the recommendations and view a slide show.

The City and task force welcome questions and comments regarding the proposal. Please e-mail downtowndiningtaskforce@longbeach.gov. If you would like to speak with someone, you can call Rachael Tanner, program specialist in the City Manager's Office, at 562-570-6999.
